Kaikoura

Feb. 4th, 2012. Backtracking to the main highway we went through Waipara Valley again and tasted at two wineries. Terrace edge was our favorite. Oscar, the winemaker's grandson showed a block of syrah vines planted on a 45 degree slope! We bought a bottle of the syrah and their olive oil.

Clare and I had to be in Blenheim on the 5th but we made time to see Kaikoura, a sleepy seaside town known for crayfish and a seal colony. The landscape was breathtaking, gorgeous coast snuggled up to steep mountains filled with grazing cows and sheep. The road on this particular stretch of coast was very narrow.
